How BOOGroup embarked on the journey to create an engaged and unified organisation through transforming their thinking, awareness and understanding of what is possible at the group of businesses and individual brand level.

Challenge

Established in 2011, BOOGroup, is a family of companies providing creative, design, marketing, software, POS & printing, warehousing, 3PL and installation services across Australia and New Zealand.

BOOGroup’s executives found that the exceptional growth they had created over the last few years along with the pandemic meant they now were now seeing challenging including some supervisor employee relationship issues, issues with hiring quality staff plus some resistance to change.

They also knew that if they were to continue to grow at a similar rate even more challenges would occur, and they needed to get in front of it.

Solutions

The engagement model designed over the first few weeks included three streams:

Management training for all Executives, managers and high performing future managers
Executive Coaching for the high performing managers
Team Coaching for the Management Team

Each stream worked in a quarter period (phase) where outcomes were agreed prior and executed towards. At the end of the phase, there was a review session when learnings were compiled, reflected upon and used in the design of the next quarter.

The first quarter engagement with BOOGroup was:

The engagement was managed at the overall business level and also at each stream level to ensure each were working in their respective context and meeting of the coaching outcomes designed.

The BOOGroup engagement achieved

Skilled and engaged managers, who now all have consistent language, the knowledge of how to manage direct reports using coaching and day-to-day supervision plus how to develop an organisational structure. The concept of Ownership Thinking was introduced along with concepts of revenue groups.

Clarity on how the leadership structures should work including how the teams need work together plus how they need to interact.

Along with designing of the Leadership team, the team’s purpose and clearly understanding why it was in existence there were also collaboration to design the normative behaviours expected within the team.

“From the outset, Charlie spent the time to understand the business, its unique needs and various challenges which resulted in designing the engagement which seemed to perfectly fit the business’ current context. The customised design resulted in running a combination of management training sessions, team coaching and Executive coaching, the change was immediately recognised within the organisation. The change was engagement within the group coached increased plus improved working methods were initiated by management which have started the journey to create a unified organisation.

Even though engagement improved the most fundamental shift in the organisation was the increased awareness of what is possible at the business or department level plus the triggering of discussions from angles which hadn’t occurred before which showed that people’s thinking had fundamentally transformed.

I couldn’t recommend Orchard Coaching any higher since we continue to engage, in fact we are increasing the work Orchard Coaching is doing at BOO. Do yourself a favour, accelerate the growth of your organisation by bringing Charlie and Orchard Coaching into your business – you will not regret it.”
